Why Quartz Actually Matters
Think about what happens when a drop of cold water hits a surface that’s 600°C. Normal glass just gives up—it cracks or shatters instantly. We use high-purity quartz because it doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings. It can go from cold to scorching in seconds without breaking a sweat. When we say “explosion-proof,” we’re talking about the tube’s ability to handle pressure and take a hit without popping. We also use special gaskets to seal the ends. If water touches that filament, the lamp is dead. Period.
The Deal with IP44 and Safety
An IP44 rating is basically a fancy way of saying the unit keeps out anything bigger than 1mm and can handle water splashing at it from any angle. But the tube can’t do all the heavy lifting. The housing has to do its part by keeping the electrical terminals far away from the humidity. And a quick tip:**make sure your wiring is tight.**Loose connections in a damp room are a recipe for arcing. We use heat-resistant terminals so the housing doesn’t start melting when you’re running high wattage for a long time.
A Word of Caution on the Heat
These lamps put out intense, short-wave infrared heat. You feel it the moment you turn them on. It’s an immediate, cozy warmth. But that intensity comes with a catch. The quartz tube gets incredibly hot—like, really hot. Don’t mount these flush against anything that could catch fire or melt. Give the unit some breathing room, or throw in a heat shield. You don’t want to find out the hard way that you’ve scorched your fixtures.
